You don't really think people buy Apple based on whether the chip is 20nm or not, do you?

Apple has shrinking market share. So, what do you think accounts for that? The point would be it's a lot of things and performance is clearly one of them. If 20nm is a dud or significantly delayed, then Intel is going to have a huge competitive advantage with 14nm going up against 28nm product.

If 20nm is delayed, then obviously 16nm is going to be significantly delayed as well.

We know Intel's 14nm volume production is going to arrive on time. We just had confirmation of this.

If 20nm gets pushed back a year, ARM is going to be at an enormous disadvantage in mobility.

I can remember Otellini saying that he didn't think ARM would ever do FinFET. I thought it was a pretty bold statement at the time but the question is why would he say something like that without having some pretty good reasons? It seemed to me that he obviously knew something about the FinFET production process that he thought was going to be a major obstacle. Intel worked on FinFET for ten years. ARM can't afford any major delays on 20nm or FinFET. They are already too far behind.
