The global economy is in (cyclical?) decline now much moreso than 6 months ago. Just as the Fed began to hint at tapering the global economy began to halt. Today we see that, instantaneously at least, China is a completely dead economy (perhaps related to their holiday cycle, but that against a significant slowdown..go read the journals). The US, mainly by way of fracking, is in relatively good shape, but businesses see this and are reacting. I think this, more than anything else (like the ludicrous 14nm super-yield rumor) caused the mothball of fab 42.

There is no doubt that the corporate PC refresh cycle has been chilled by Win 8. That alone shocks the PC market, and the shortfall is well below the usual demands of business for PC's. There is no way that a tablet is anything but a toy. PC's must and will be upgraded, all managers know this. But they can wait for Windows 9. Then perhaps, Bill Gates, can get some much needed sleep.
