flumoxed2012, I view it as necessary from a software perspective. Many Android programs are known as "native" apps. This essentially means that they were compiled for and optimized for the ARM architecture and now only recently have they begun to target X86/MIPS (but there's still a whole bunch of code out there that is ARM-native only).

As long as X86 is relegated to no-name Chinese designs, developers will not have incentive to make sure their apps are X86 friendly. But if Intel wins a Nexus? Holy cow, no developer is going to want their apps to not run smoothly on a FLAGSHIP GOOGLE OFFICIAL device!

So, if Intel wins a Nexus 7/8, then X86 becomes a first-class Android citizen. Until then, it is a bit player that will have software compatibility quirks and generally suffer from a lack of optimization.

(BTW, I recently bought this...glad Intel is at least publishing this stuff: http://www.amazon.com/Android-x86-Introduction-Optimizing-Architecture/dp/1430261307/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1390487390&sr=8-1&keywords=android+x86)
