You’re Buying A Lot of Penis Pumps
According to a recently released Inspector General’s report, you and I (and the other taxpayers in the US) paid out $175 Million for Penis Pumps between 2006-2011! Not only have we been spending this obscene amount of money on penis pumps, but we’re getting ripped off at the register too. The IG report also found that the government was paying more than double the cost of what the penis pumps actually cost at retail!
Highway robbery, in more ways than one.
Ben Domenech from the Heartland Institute gets a little angry for us.
“The fact that taxpayers have spent more than a quarter of a billion dollars over the past decade on penis pumps via Medicare is obscene and insulting – even more so when you consider that this is an arena of Medicare expenditures rife with fraud and where the government doesn’t even bother to assess medical necessity,” said Ben Domenech, a senior fellow at the Heartland Institute.
“This is a perfect example of what happens when government becomes the be all and end all of human existence – a system where everyone has a right to a taxpayer-funded penis pump.”
He’s right.
This is exactly what conservatives are always warning about when it comes to bloated waste filled government. The thing is, we have example after example of these problems overflowing from our “illustrations of government waste” portfolio and yet it seems to make little difference politically or in the media.
Are there really people out there who want the government running more agencies and more departments after having one encounter with the DMV? Seriously? Why do we think that healthcare will be any different than the Post Office, the DMV, or any other government office or facility?
It just makes no sense.
Until conservatives can start convincing more people that these examples of government excess and waste are the norm not the exception, you and I are going to keep paying for other people to get their penis pumps. As weird and sad as that is.
