Asher is very much more in controlling stock value so they can get as much stock as possible. Strategy: before first convertible comes due, short sell the stock so you can get much more stock than you should actually be entitled to and resell when price recovers. However, if they have multiple notes to convert they will continue to drive the price down so they can get a ton of stock (depending on contract allowance) and wait for the stock to recover. If there are other creditors to the company, though, sometimes they just take everything they can get up front, since contract terms are usually pretty awful for the company.
