Jaws (the original) - 4.25/5
The scene below deck when they're showing each others' scars... actually, the minute they get on that boat, it REALLY starts getting good. Quint is spectacular, what a character. Dreyfus gives a flawless performance as well. Brody was equally amazing. I mean, after a certain point, movie making doesn't get much better. Not affected. A certain innocence from the era adds to the beauty of it all. I enjoyed the hell out of seeing Jaws again by chance on TV.
Caught the end of The Shining. What hokey hyped up malarky. It was like, anything goes whether it makes sense or not. I HATED Jack Nicholson's wicked snarly face thing he does and I felt no compassion for Shelley Duvall's character whatsoever, but she WAS pretty good at playing a clueless gawk pain in the bumm. That damned kid with his froggy voiced "redrum". I was like, STFU already. 2.75/5 for being a curiosity. I was at a bonfire party on the beach with a bunch of European friends (of mine, I didn't crash it) and they all felt that The Shining was one of the best movies ever made. In fact, a few of them said it was their favorite movie of all time. Those Europeans gotta get out more.
