The four CPU cores and the eight GPU cores in the HSA-enabled Kaveri processor can each run its own thread, drawing data from a shared memory space. Kaveri, Macri explained, should therefore be regarded as a 12-core processor.

Well that's marketing for you. They might be able to justify this kind of phraseology under certain conditions. CLBenchmark performance was exceptionally good, and that could extend to real usages some day. On the other hand, the ecosystem has been moving very slow in this area - glacial speed compared to software innovation on the mobile side. My guess is that Intel will need a heterogeneous solution by the time Qualcomm/Apple/Samsung start shipping GPGPU solutions, but AMD isn't going to be the one to change the world with their architecture. It's just a marketing bullet (for now).
