I don't think this is Intel's long-term goal, though.

Of course not, but how long is long term? 5 years? 10?

I just don't see the market turning on a dime any more, and I'm less confident that it's as simple as Intel just leveraging their manufacturing and design prowess. It might take years, or it might never happen. In the meantime, Krzanich seems to have a strategy in mind that's at least consolation to investors, if not what some of us had in mind in the beginning.
