gave each one a laptop? (I'm sorry I missed that). That is very extravagant. My kids haven't been in grade school for quite a while, but they were lucky to have one or two PC's for each classroom and they were old klunkers.

But I would have to disagree with the term "toy". I've made my living on computers for 25 years and besides that I manage my finances, do research, take classes, shop, take care of correspondence and stay in touch with family and friends! It's an invaluable tool. Of course, I have been known to play a few games on it too :)
