Dan, Re: P4's problem is that a thin & light is under 4lbs w/o optical drive and under 5lbs with optical drive and battery. An ultralight is under 3lbs and has an external optical drive (or none at all).

Who is the one who sets those weight limit restrictions? I have seen plenty of manufacturers with "Thin&Light" notebooks that weigh more than what you claim. As a general rule, I have noticed the following:

<3lbs - subnotebook
3-4.5lbs - mini-notebook
4.5-6.0lbs - thin&light
6.0-7.5lbs - full sized
>7.5lbs - desktop replacement

Of course, it also depends from what region you are buying. Japanese vendors tend to be conservative with their weight classes, while American companies tend to be liberal. It depends on the target audience.
