AS OF 4:03 PM ET 12/30/13.) pops to a 2-year high as the large-vehicle parts maker has a seemingly brighter outlook regarding a long-standing legal fight with fellow transmission maker Eaton (ETN) regarding discounts. A federal appeals court Friday cleared the way for the damages phase to get going, and Morgan Stanley says the "odds of MTOR winning damages appear even higher now." If MTOR does get money, it could "shore up its balance sheet further" following recent divestitures and keep the company on track to reach 2016 targets "without any balance-sheet or cycle distractions." MTOR gains 12% to $9.11 and is the only double-digit gainer on the NYSE while ETN is down 0.7% after hitting its latest record high Friday. ([e-mail])
