Portland is still a good city; but unfortunately it has become uber liberal. However, once you get out of the Metro area it still very conservative, it still has that great older Oregonian feel o to it, and it is still quite a beautiful state.
I have a couple of friends in TX, and my last sister-in-law just moved to TX.
