Yes, the consolidation of any industry/ sector is usually a result of increased competition and lower pricing strategies wherein the big boys find it more expedient to buy technology and/or customers and get the cheap providers out of the game. . The earlier posted article stated the very low average spend of $7.13/customer in 2012 which means very few are doing well at this time.
