Correction to my previous post

The Playstation 3 does have the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC capabilities, but not the required processor speed and graphics card to upscale 2k 4k. Currently the Roku, and Apple TV also cannot output 4k resolution.

Here is an updated list of devices that can stream Native 4K

Playstation 4
Xbox One
PC with 4k Video Card
Sony’s Redray Player
Nanotech’s NP-1/NP-H1

As far as I know, all of these devices can also upconvert 2k streams to 4k. 4k Blu Ray players can upscale 2k to 4k, but they cannot stream Native 4k.

All of these players currently use the H.264 decoding, expect for the Redray Player (more powerful). The big question is which ones will be able to upgrade to H.265? Many claim that they can, but the CPU’s might not be powerful enough. HEVC/H.265 is very important for streaming because you would only need half the bandwidth speed to view the 4k movie without losing any quality. But this process requires double the processer speed.
