expect AMD processors based on a new core to be introduced
commercially before 2H08.


Given the standard core rate, we expect AMD to do a process jump this year as they transition to 65nm (assuming they do not slip to Q1'07). Then, in 2007, they will ramp quad core and K8L, which is an extension of their K8 micro-architecture (not a full blown leap). That leaves H2'08 for their next process leap to 45nm (again, assuming no slips to 2009), and that leaves mid-2009 for their next micro-architectural innovation (at the earliest). IMO, H2 2008 sounds way too optimistic.

Of course, this doesn't say anything about AMD's competitiveness. Depending on what low hanging fruit they got into K8L, it could be a boon for them, even without a full blown uArch overhaul.
