I did back up all my data to a CD on Jan. 22, 2006. So, I went to the CD and copied the 'aidb' file for Whse1 and pasted it to my hard drive, re-writing the 'aidb' file for Whse 1. Then, I copied this 'aidb' file to AI, but it doesn't work, because it says that this is a read-only file. Is there a way to get fix this problem?

Your situation brings up an idea I'd like to see in AI, multiple portfolios instead of having to manually manage several files...

Anyway - to fix your immediate problem:

1) open Windows Explorer
2) go to the directory where the aidb.mdb file is.
3) right-mouse click on the file and select 'properties'
3) you'll then see check boxes, read-only, archive and hidden (at least under Windows 2000, other versions may have others visible or not).
4) you'll note that the 'read-only' has a checkmark in it, left click it to remove, then left-click 'apply' button at the bottom.
5) left click the ok button and you'll be good to go.

The reason for this is that CD based files are on, essentially read-only media once they're written. When you copy a file back over it preserves the read-only attribute during the copy.

Similarly, if you ever have to restore a complete directory, you can highlight all the files in the directory and then follow the same process to de-read-only them. Faster than doing one at a time!

Problems or questions - please post again.
