I live in a rural area and it's used primarily to boost signal in the house and surrounding buildings. I suppose the local signal is too weak to hand off seamlessly every time. Upon arriving home it hands off really well as you hear three beeps as you talk, signaling the handoff. It's leaving the area that it drops the call.
