Something I posted on a Weimaraner FB page today...
A True story about our 8 month old Charlie, who I thought ingested a Battery.
As we know, certain Breeds of Dogs, especially as puppy's will eat anything, and that is what I thought our Charlie did.
The other evening, I was changing a Battery. It was that type of Battery that looks like a coin, a Dime ( USA coin ) ... I became distracted and left the kitchen where the Battery was on the Kitchen counter. I then came back to the kitchen and realized it was the dog's time to eat, we have 6 dogs. I put all of the dogs out of the kitchen while I got their bowls ready. I pushed the Battery back on the counter from where it was. Opened the door, and all the dogs came flying in to their feeding areas. Went back to my computer while they were all eating. Collected the bowls. Remembered my Battery project. Went back to the Kitchen. The Battery was GONE.... All the dogs had now ate their evening meal.... I knew if anyone had taken the Battery, it was probably, most likely Charlie.. Not Good....
I remembered reading that using Peroxide will induce Vomiting in a dog. I started the process with Charlie. I gave Charlie aprox 1 oz of Peroxide, mixed with a tad bit of Milk for flavor it and 2-3 oz of water in a bowel, waited 15 min's, No results. In the mean time I was looking all over the Kitchen for the Battery. No Battery. So I repeated the process again with Peroxide. After the second dose, I looked again for the Battery, and there it was on the floor...
Oh gosh... Now I have Charlie who just might Erupt like a Volcano.... I then gave Charlie about 1 oz of milk, in about 8 oz's of water in a bowel. I wanted to dilute the Peroxide Mix so he would NOT throw up... Well Charlie gulped down the bowel of water/milk mix, then Puked a min later, then Puked again, and then Puked again... Yes 3 Times.....so it does...
My Point is : #1... Keep track of items around Weimi Pups...
#2... Peroxide, 5 ml or 1 teaspoon per 10 lbs or 4.5 kg does work. It irritates the stomach, but causes no lasting damage, and saves Hundreds $$ on and ER Vet Bill...
**** If your dog has ingested any type of a Medication. Time is of the essence, and within 5-10 min's, a Medication could be absorbed threw the lining of the Stomach, so you really don't have time to get into the car and speed off to a Vet, or and ER Vet.. **** Start the Process right away ****
Once site I looked at said to Syringe the pure Peroxide right down the dogs throat... Not a good Idea at all, your Weimi will fight it, and I did not even thing of going that route.... Make the Peroxide taste good, add a little milk and water to the mix, and place it in a bowel, if No results, repeat in 15 min's... but do not do it a 3rd time if No results...
