Until Northwood, Athlon was faster for most code. One difference here is that A64 has been the choice for a while, these days it takes a die hard Intel fan to be promoting Intel processors as the performance choice at this point, much less by the time NGA rolls out. So the base needs to be rebuilt.

By no means is it clear sailing for AMD. They have to keep moving forward if they want to keep the MS they have so far managed to liberate. We just need to see what the new process tweaks bring to the table. The existing roadmaps don't seem to take that into account.
