Counterfeit currency deterrence is a joint effort of the Department of the Treasury, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Federal Reserve Board, and the U.S. Secret Service, with the latter agency being responsible for the investigation of counterfeiting currency. We continue to investigate, analyze, and evaluate technologies that show promise in counterfeit deterrence.

A decision to use a deterrence feature would have to take into account a number of elements including, but not limited to, counterfeit deterrence enhancement characteristics, durability, production cost considerations, environmental concerns, and the potential acceptability of such features among the public, banking community, and other cash handlers.

The Treasury plans to routinely redesign the currency every seven to 10 years, incorporating counterfeit deterrent features.

Dear Larry,

Is the US Bureau of Engraving considering using Plant DNA as an US Dollar anti-counterfeiting technology (see attached).. This technology developed by Applied DNA sciences looks incredible and would be a good thing for the US government and our country.

How seriously are you considering this technology?
