a) The Wii U has been a complete and utter disaster. One of the worst selling Nintendo consoles ever.
b) However, their handheld: the 3DS, on the flipside, is the best selling overall gaming console on the market, and has been every week for over a year. It's selling like gangbusters.
c) Nintendo has had several big franchise game title releases for both systems, which gives optimism for revenue growth and a Wii U comeback.
d) The Yen is still extremely weak against the Dollar, so more Nintendo profits
e) The Holiday season, despite it being more focused on the new Playstation & XBox offerings, is always the biggest quarter of the year for Nintendo, and I haven't been following the reviews too closely for those new systems, but I do know they're much more expensive than Nintendo's Wii U, and Nintendo should actually receive help in sales by the release of new consoles, simply because it puts the world's focus back on video games.
