The answer is quite simple. The transition must be gradual. If a new technology is capable of eliminating the demand for another, the effects on wall st. would be like 10 lehmans put together.

Why is it taking so long? Good question. The only reasonable answer is that the legal procedures regarding IP protection (patents) is lengthy.
