Hampden...really good post! I agree with you regarding the 30 day wash sale rule. Many factors to consider. If the drop hadn't been as much as it was then folks wouldn't be struggling with their decision to sell or not. I personally feel, like you mentioned, the expected weak Q4 is partially, if not fully, baked into the PPS. I feel at these levels there is more upside than downside and will hold on. As I've stated it's a paper loss until sold.
