I don´t think the article is a response to recent events. It was written some time back and the NEJM required an update on SAE and held the publication until this data was added (as was reported in a recent news story).
I think the article and content fits well to what I stated in my previous post: the original intention of the Pona trials was to show vastly improved survival for people with T315i mutation and eventually other mutations that might render other TKIs ineffective. The trials were not meant and not set up as trials to confirm safest super long term usage in frontline.
The scientists show this message clearly in this article, but I don´t think it is a spin on recent events, but rather the original plan shining through.
This original plan was unfortunately somehow forgotten by management when Wall Street started to salivate and tell the Harv how great he was.
Well, I guess that is over and HB can go back becoming more in tune with his science team again.
