I also believe and have stated in the past, that being profitable isn't necessary for success at this stage. New businesses often go years before becoming profitable but the financial statements can show trends toward that goal. It also can reveal shady transaction and toxic debt. A fear of mine in this is back-room deals are hard to make look good on paper and will raise ethical questions. I don't have any evidence of this just a gut feeling based on past actions and performance. I would love to be proved wrong. Would relish to be absolutely wrong about them.
