Mastercraft6 - Do not kid yourself about Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras DAY is the 28th.

The major parades, the big ones everyone knows, are the weekend before Madi Gras. There are many other nice parades during the week prior to Mardi Gras.

Two weekends before Mardi Gras are the smaller parades that many locals look forward to since the crowds are smallER. These are followed by a few parades during the week as well.

Who know what this year will bring thanks to Katrina, but that is historically the way it worked.

Check out the most resent schedule (note the disclaimer that the final schedule has not been approved): http://www.nola.com/mardigras/parades/daycal.ssf

The Mardi Gras calander works backward from Mardi Gras Day since it changes from year to year.
