Applied DNA Sciences Signs Enterprise-Wide Agreement with One of the Top Four U.S. Defense Contractors for SigNature DNA Marking
STONY BROOK, NY, October 15, 2013. Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. (OTCQB: APDN), (Twitter: @APDN), a provider of DNA-based anti-counterfeiting technology and product authentication solutions, announced today it has signed a ten-year option agreement with one of the top four U.S. defense contractors to purchase SigNature DNA® marking technology. The international aerospace and defense company currently intends to apply its unique SigNature DNA mark on FSC 5962 microcircuits in support of US Defense Logistics Agency acquisition requirement (DLAD) 52.211-9074.
As a global leader, this defense contractor or "Prime" provides key defense systems to the Defense Logistics Agency, as well as a wide variety of advanced systems to military services and other government and private sector customers.
As one path to counterfeit risk mitigation, DLA has adopted DNA marking - a powerful preventative solution. Now, with the addition of one of the top Primes, the entire semiconductor supply chain, from the point of manufacture, to the inclusion in higher-level assemblies, can be protected with the forensic security that only SigNature DNA can offer.
This company is a high-tech leader and supports military services such as: Navy, Army, Air Force, and the Missile Defense Agency, as well as non-military end users such as NASA and the Department of Homeland Security.
"I am proud to have this innovative team join our growing list of companies working together to prevent counterfeit infiltration," stated Janice Meraglia, Vice President of Government and Military Programs at Applied DNA Sciences. "Each thought leader that joins this critical effort to secure the defense supply chain sends a strong message: end users are taking matters into their own hands to ensure they provide the war fighters with as much protection as the war fighters provide to each and every one of us," continued Janice.
Dr. James A. Hayward, CEO and President, Applied DNA Sciences stated, "Each additional participant in the DNA marking program brings with them their own excellence in technological innovation and buoys the 'can do' spirit Applied DNA Sciences embodies. We believe this leader can help expand our SigNature DNA technology platform and elevate it to the next level. The risk of counterfeit parts in the electronics supply chain is a threat we have always taken seriously, and we will work diligently to support this Prime and encourage them to flow SigNature DNA marking across their entire enterprise and to pull the technology through their own suppliers and subcontractors," commented Dr. Hayward.
"We are a biotechnology company selling security products," continued Dr. Hayward, "and it is important that our investors appreciate that in some cases, we must protect the identity of our customers and partners. That is true in this case."
