(PINKSHEETS: GRNH), a world class provider of eco-friendly green technologies, has completed its acquisition of 49 percent of The Waters Wheel, Hollywood, Calif., a firm that specializes in recirculating water urban farming -- systems, such as Aquaponics, that use water in place of soil to grow food.
In August, 2013, Rafael O. Quezada, founder and CEO of The Waters Wheel, was named Aquaponics Manager for BP Gardens, LLC, Buena Park, Calif. BP Gardens specializes in controlled environment agriculture (CEA) solutions.

The Waters Wheel
Quezada, an innovator, artist and builder, provides construction and technology expertise on Greengro Technologies projects.
The Waters Wheel systems use water in place of soil (or soil developed from aquaculture and specialized media). Besides accelerating growth of densely concentrated crops and making better tasting produce, recirculating water agriculture conserves as much as 95 percent of the water otherwise needed to farm in soil.
Previous projects undertaken by The Waters Wheel include a for-profit enterprise that involved the development of one aeroponic farm at Hollygrove Market and Farm and the first rooftop-supermarket farm at Rouses Market, both projects in New Orleans, La. The company introduced the first recirculating farm to the city in collaboration with Aquaponic Modular Production Systems (AMPS).
The first collaborative school project between Greengro and The Waters Wheel will break ground October 17, 2013, in South Central Los Angeles. A seedling nursery and recirculating water farm will be implemented for the new City of Youth Charter School, located in a Los Angeles "food desert" on South Central Avenue. A new solar parking lot will provide off-grid power for all farming operations. Greengro Technologies is providing funds for the startup and will help equip the facilities with Greengro products.
City of Youth, under the leadership of program director David Durand, has plans to replicate the project at multiple locations, bringing fresh foods and a much needed agriculture economy to the urban community. School curricula will include aquaponics, a food production system that combines conventional aquaculture (fish farming in a tank) with hydroponics (cultivating plants in water) in a symbiotic environment.
"For projects like the City of Youth academy, our operating principle is, 'If you feed people a fish, they will eat for a day," said Haas. "If you teach them how to grow healthy produce with tanks full of edible fish, a whole economy will generate from their hands, empowered.'"
