Market sentiment. When it's south, (lots of uncertantity in the market) anything less than spectacular will push a stock price lower. Sometimes even hitting the numbers will cause a stock to trade lower. Even hitting the profitibily numbers, but not how the analysts expected (IBM) will cause a tumble.
I suspect it's tied to uncertainty. When people think they have it tagged, but miss, the stock takes a hit.
I took a hit with a few (emerging markets and latin america), but energy services pulled my portfolio into positive territory.
Some of it is due to Tehran, some to an overbought market, some due to the Nikkei dropping. In any case, the market was due for a corection.
Just glad I wasn't in the Nikkei... but then again, we haven't seen all of the correction necesary. I think we have another day or two to go. Friday is anybody's guess.
Maybe next week will bring an upswing in the markets?
