Intel had as many shares, split-adjusted, at the end of 2004 as it did in 1990.

WOW! That's great, 14 years! Not many companies could say that. Certainly not AMD...

You might look at it this way. Intel BOUGHT those shares from shareholders and then SOLD them to good employees for the same value. Obviously, the intent is that the employees are supposed to get a good deal on this. The same thing that the shareholders would get if they kept theirs. Of course, that's assuming the shares go up, which they haven't (lately).
