Cyclone recruited OSU CAR to assist in the commercialization of its external combustion engine technology, specifically the company’s Waste Heat Engine (WHE) model. Since the commencement of the program in June, the partners have completed dynamic analysis of the engine and developed solutions for: improved durability of bearings and valve systems, reduced engine noise and vibration, and enhanced assembly and quality control standards. In addition, Cyclone and OSU CAR have commenced work on the next generation WHE. This improved design engine, which will be built and tested this coming month, has approximately 60% fewer parts. The partners calculate that this will decrease manufacturing costs and increase operational durability without any loss in performance.
