HP Discounting on Pentium M and Pentium D systems

I received a pretty big flyer in the mail this week with the
biggest discounts on Intel-processor notebooks and desktops that
I've ever seen from them. On the notebook side, I guess that
they're clearing out their Pentium M inventory so that they can
introduce their Core Duo stuff. And it appears that they don't
want to put the new stuff up on their website for sale until they
get rid of the old stuff.

I received an email from Dell on 30% off sales as well though I
didn't open the email.

Not sure why HP is discounting the Pentium 4 and Pentium D systems
so aggressively though.

BTW, I found this interesting laptop with an FX-60 for about $3,500. Relatively speaking, that's not a bad price for a machine
with this processors. It also claims a 200 GB 7200 notebook disk and the GeForce 7800 graphics card. Now that's a performance demon that won't be obsolete in a few years like the current set of Core Duo notebooks out there. BTW, I've seen an article out there bringing up this point already. Of course buy what you need for now if you need something now. But the way prices are dropping for Pentium M notebooks, you might be better off buying a really cheap Pentium M notebook and then buying the 64-bit stuff down the road.
