The Establishment is Losing Power
Posted by mrcurmudgeon on September 30, 2013@morethanrightco

By Stephen Z. Nemo:

The Washington Post’s David Ignatious fears the “likeable” House Speaker John Boehner “is utterly ineffective.”

“Boehner’s problem,” says Ignatious, “is that he is unable to deliver the 218 House Republicans for any pragmatic piece of legislation. He survives from crisis to crisis, thanks to Democratic votes that salvage last-minute compromises … It’s useful to remember a time when House speakers were able to cut deals that put the country’s interests first.”

In other words, Boehner owes his success as speaker to the Democratic minions under the control of Nancy Pelosi – the shadow House Speaker. And, more importantly, as Ignatious clearly insists, President Obama’s interests ARE the country’s interests – no matter how unpopular with the people his interests may be.

If Mr. Boehner is losing influence over an important swath of Republican lawmakers, it’s because Tea Party and conservative House members stand with the people who elected them and not the GOP leadership working so diligently to make President Obama’s “fundamental transformation of America” a success.

So, let me dissect what’s really going on here: the media supports, with rare exception, President Obama’s radical, authoritarian agenda; establishment Republican leaders fear that by opposing Obama, they risk becoming victims of character assassination campaigns launched by the mainstream media; to gain what the American Spectator’s editor-in-chief R. Emmett Tyrrell describes as “strange new respect,” establishment mouthpieces rush to every major media outlet to condemn Tea Party and conservative opposition to Obama’s radicalism; the media spins Tea Party and conservative opposition as “outside the mainstream” of American thought, while poll after poll finds that a majority of Americans, no matter their party affiliation, stand with the Tea Party on the issues of national debt and ObamaCare and against Obama and his establishment GOP enablers.

You see, John Boehner lost influence over House Republicans when he arranged with the White House and Democratic congressional members to exempt Washington elites from Obama’s dictatorial health care law.

When Tea Party champion Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas spoke in favor of doing the same for all Americans by stripping funding for ObamaCare, he effectively became a one-man opposition to Washington’s arrogant, “business as usual,” bipartisan ruling class.

Last August, a Pew Research Center survey found that “50% of Republicans under 40 and 55% of those 40 and older favor their leaders moving in a more conservative direction.”

GOP House members are abandoning Boehner because they fear “We the People” will replace them next year with representatives pledged to serve OUR interests and not those of the main stream media, President Obama or the ineffective John Boehner.
