NASCAR has made gazillions for the France family and their minions, or is that filet mignons? However, their sport has huge challenges: empty seats, failed or failing collateral enterprises (NASCAR Café, Licensing, Mechanics Certification, etc) and sponsors bailing out in an exhilirating rush for the door.

Besides the MikeyWaltripgate scandal, the bigger news may well be Nationwide bailing out on the Tier 2 series, formerly the Busch Series. And with Fox Sports having consumed the former Speed Channel, there is no media partner broadcasting many of the set-up shows for Cup races, including the truck series, Cup testing and Cup qualifying. Last weekend's Nationwide race wasn't even telecast except as an unannounced after thought on ESPN News which I found only by accident. It was not listed on Yahoo Sports, Nascar.com or even Jayski.

Big, big trouble going forward.
