The National Post reports in its Thursday, Jan. 12, edition that crude oil rose Wednesday. A Reuters dispatch to the Post reports crude's price approached a three-month high after Iran decided to resume research on uranium reprocessing. Iran's move raised the prospect of sanctions on the second-biggest supplier in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. United Kingdom Prime Minister Tony Blair said Iran's action is "very serious indeed." He said the move will likely lead to Iran's referral to the United Nations Security Council. Prices earlier fell on a United States Energy Department report showing that United States distillate and gasoline stockpiles rose last week. "The Iranians are going ahead with their nuclear program and saying the heck with what the rest of the world thinks," said Kyle Cooper, an analyst with Citigroup in Houston. "They didn't say anything about cutting supplies, but the market is still nervous." Crude oil for February delivery rose 57 U.S. cents to $63.94 (U.S.) a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
