sgolds, yes, I realize that the term originated that way, but I commonly hear it used in conversation with no racist connotation anymore(intended or inferred). I think perhaps it has lost this connotation because of the phrase "Great White Way". In any case, I couldn't think of another phrase off the cuff that would convey the same tone. Thanks for the reminder, though. There's not a racist bone in my body, so sometimes how certain things may be heard just doesn't even occur to me.
