I'm sure this will rile a few of you:

The CEO of The Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. (SMG) was on CNBC this morning. The company is instituting a no smoking policy - and when they say no smoking they mean no smoking on OR off the premises. Incredbily CNBC had people on there saying things like .... "uh, uh, they can't do that!" Utter ignorance, paranoiah - and intimidation. It makes me sick ------- PUSSYs.

Anyway, this company is HQ'd in Ohio and apparently they are one of the 20 "right to work" states. I liked the fact that, although when he was on, the CNBC hosts (4 of them) all appeared to be hammering him and the on-line poll was 66-34 against him, despite all that, he was very unapologetic.

Later, after he left, and as they were mulling it over, they made comments like this will work itself out in the marketplace. People won't want to work for a company that is that intrusive. But, I was thinking the exact opposite. I suspect they will have a FLOOD of resumes. I would overwhelmingly rather work in an environment like that than one where your coworkers are spending an hour a day out getting their fix while I had to cover for them. So, you not only have more people to choose from, but, on average, you have a better quality workforce.
