"tu was the originally the liberal arts / lawyer crowd and A&M the engineering / agriculture."

That, and A&M always felt they didn't get the respect they deserved. All of the glory went to tu, despite a strong program at A&M. During the early 1980s A&M constantly pointed out that the only world respected program tu had was in botany, while they had a pretty long list of areas where they were recognized as a top school.
