Phase IV trials and other post-marketing studies

I have some experience with post-marketing industry sponsored clinical trials. Sometimes, they are important contributions to the understanding of real world safety and effectiveness. At the other extreme, they can be thinly veiled kickback mechanisms to pay physicians to prescribe a drug. My sense is this case is probably the former, but with an important marketing element as well. It's the first real world use of the drug, so collecting some usage information is certainly important. It's also important to get physicians using and comfortable with the drug. It's great to hear things are moving forward as this will happen in parallel with product sales.
