Qualcomm is the undisputed leader in communications IP and that will limit Intels market penetration in smart phones.



Sure, but with a leadership apps processor + competent modem, Intel could fight a lesser apps processor + leadership modem. It won't be a clean win, and the battles for sockets could get tough, but it's not the same as the situation that we have today.
