A couple of years ago I owned a video game store. I NEVER received new games prior to the release date, even worse, they weren't even shipped out to my store until the day of release. Some of those BIG stores (we know who they are) would be selling the games at 12:01 a.m the day of the release (and sometimes sooner).
Also, there have been times that I have ordered items from BIG online retailers and they were shipped out PRIOR to the release date... I believe, on the pretense that I, as the consumer, would not receive my order until the date of official relase. Many time I received my order BEFORE the actual "release" date.
