Well, it seems they are trying to tie passenger's identity to his bag that is being scanned and also to the ETD (I assume) portal where he's walking through. Once they have all the information, it will be processed based on the individual background (presumably retrieved from the passport/hand scan). Basically profiling.
Personally I have no issues with this but as you said, it could be an issues for others in the USA. The hand scan feature may be removed but then it kinda unties all the useful information.

Anyway, although this is definitely an interesting project and must be a lot of fun to implement, it's certainly not a new idea. I give Morpho credit for doing this but the reason others haven't done it yet is because there's no customer for it (at least in the US) and it's a very risky undertaking. It just has too many radical differences from the current con-ops and will be very hard if not impossible to convince TSA to change the way they conduct business.
Speaking of this.... You'd be shocked to learn how much gov. is spending on contractors (Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, etc.) to teach TSA how to operate new equipment, new protocols, site surveys, installation, etc. It's billions of dollars. I mean, it's not as simple as TSA just placing an order for equipment, TSA opens the box, reads the manual and off they go. There's bureaucracy in every step of the way and everyone is milking huge money out of it. Security is another reason.

So the question is, would you want to be the person who decides to spend billions of $$$ on these Morpho checkpoints? Imagine the scrutiny.
I give this Morpho solution 10% of succeeding here in USA and by succeeding I mean an adoption in every NEWLY built checkpoint. Can this concept succeed? Sure.... but TSA will release their own spec document to multiple companies to compete. I just find it hard to imagine with sequestration and our debt issues.
