Anyone who thinks it would be better if the company did not raise the A/S is crazy this doesn't effect the float. Now the company has shares available for merger/acquisition/partnership. If they had not increased the A/S, they would be not be in a position to enter into those partnerships. They also had to protect themselves as they would have been vulnerable to hostile takeover from another company or person buying up a majority of shares.
