gitreal, 33 years ago I started a well testing service. Today we are one of the major forces in the oil testing market in our state. Having said that, NO ONE can see down that hole and there is always a risk that the hole will be dry, wet or some shows, but not economically commercial. Risks defines the oil business. However, risk can be minimized to some extent by a review of any existing data that might be pertinent to your drilling operation. I've heard of wells producing for 30 plus years. It depends on so many factors : I.E. zone thickness, is there water contact close to the oil producing zone? how hard is the well being produced, etc. In well testing operations I get asked a lot this question : how much oil and gas do I think the well will make? My answer is always the same--after we test this well for a period of time, I will let you know. Only time will tell the story.
