There are so many things that could spell out or doom in the future: massive food shortage due to depleted phosphate reserves, which I believe deep ocean mining/algae harvesting is the only way to manage in the future, apart from massive reduction in population. Mega virus/diseases, massive scale war for dwindling resources, whether is be food/water/metals ore etc. ( it think advanced desalinization will solve the water problem in the future, apparently Lockeed Martin is working on something huge right now, with advanced membranes or something) a Meteor could head for us (basically a statistical certainty, just a matter of time scale)
Anyhow, the point is, the universe/world is an unforgiving harsh place that is out to kill us at every turn; as over 90% of all species that have ever live are extinct, could be more. And as Intelligent Humans (debatable) our goal is to do our best to ensure our survival, so as a responsible Human, I try my best to research technology/ideas or whatever that could help in that goal. Not everything is going to be a winner, many to most will fail, and there will be many scams along the way. As investors in the tech industry, it is our job to do our best in finding companies that could help with the many challenges we will face, and try to make money and the same time. There will always be wins and losses, so just try to get all the info you can, question everything, do your research, try not to fall for scams, and hope for the best. That is all anyone can ask out of any human/investor. Just don't fall in love or hate with any company, as that will blind you to successes and failures that they may make. be like a Vulcan, and use your logic!
One thing is certain, something has to change in the energy/food/water industries, or we are all kinds of fucked, within 40-80 years, most likely. Also keep in mind that usually profit trumps everything, so that even if something does work and CAN solve issues that need to be solved, it will often fail if it doesn't make people there precious dollars. Who is to say that Originoil doesn't figure out how to scales it to the size and efficiency it needs to work and make money. People are impatient and greedy, and I would bet my life that there are many inventions/tech that could have had sweeping change on the world, but got crushed by lack of finances, corporate meddling and Politics.
