Question posted to Obama forum on Zillow site for tomorrow's Q/A with the Pres: Why get rid of the GSEs? Why not do treat them the same as the big banks that needed government bailouts? Simply add regulation that forces higher capital requirements to buffer against what we saw in 2008 and problem solved. Liquidating privately held, profitable, and beneficial companies like Fannie and Freddie is just un-American and flies in the face of Capitalism.
