Six Million Consumers Call Music Industry Every Day -- and the Industry Fails to Answer

MUNDELEIN, Ill., May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- A survey released last Tuesday by
the Washington-based Pew Internet and American Life Project revealed that the
number one use of the Web is downloading music files.
Six million people a day are using the Internet as their personal source
for music access, according to the study, but most of the product is
unauthorized and reaching their ears for free. Teenagers and college students
aren't the only ones downloading files. Twenty-nine percent of adults
surveyed said they've been downloading music.
The results of a similar survey by Pew last year indicated that seventy-
nine percent of Internet users who downloaded music didn't pay for the songs.
This means more than just billions of dollars in lost revenues for
entertainment companies and artists. More than six million potential
consumers every day are reaching out to the music industry, expressing
interest in their archives and current products, and the entertainment
companies are failing to reach back.
A Mundelein, Ill.-based software company, Veridisc(TM), has developed the
FairPlay(TM) Digital Rights Management (DRM) system that strengthens users'
relationships with musicians, studios and other content originators. Veridisc
and FairPlay can link consumers rationally with content originators, perform
DRM functions and maximize marketing potential -- whether or not there is a
retail charge for access to the digital file content. Indeed, Veridisc can
perform these functions not only today, but even for digital content
distributed months or years earlier.
Veridisc CEO, Greg Halpern, is available to discuss how companies that
focus on their customers -- and make it easy for them to obtain and pay for a
wider range of products and services -- will be better prepared to dominate
the next stage in the evolution of Web-based entertainment.
Veridisc(TM) and FairPlay(TM) are patent-pending systems that manage
distribution and access to protected digital content while strengthening
customer relationships. Veridisc is a subsidiary of Circle Group Internet.
