The claims of rampant shorting and imminent short squeezes are indeed ridiculously stupid. But, the people making these ridiculous claims aren't doing it because they actually believe it to be true. It's a scam tactic to sucker fools into buying shares with the mistaken idea that they are poised to pop due to a short squeeze.
