I think the point here is that the PPT' sactions are magnified because they are so blatant and obvious. WHat they attempt to do is slow or stop the downside momentum. How do you do that best- by burning shorts. They have the fire power to leave big craters when they launch an assault and there puropse is aided by making well timed bold statements. They want to scare/hurt shorts and they have the tools to do so almost without limits- the limit being the tipping point when they have a controlling interest in 75% of the publicly traded compaines (joke). For people who don't follow the tape closely, the game goes unnoticed, but as the amount of program trading increases as a prercentage of trade, it weems as though joe 6 pack is gun shy due to the volatility and the length of the bear market. SO you have the PPT vs. the hedge funds. The PPT has the firepower, but there is a limit to their ammunition. Shock and awe, rather than sublety aids there purposes
