Posted by: eaglefl ... Registry Utilities ... to get your view on ewido ... relate to basic ones: Ad-Aware, Spybot, Zone Alarm, AVG and Ace ... talk about Malware [and] new extended threats ... question is....Do they, Are they Experienced?
Posted by: Bruce A Thompson Wccawa is the resident expert on Ewido. I tried it but did not buy it and fully test it.
Posted by: deathtotaxes ... use [Ewido] frequently, although I did not purchase it. ... it found and removed alot of bad guys. Now it seems to get the same things that Ad-aware does.
Posted by: wccawa Tried it, bought it, love it. 9 out of 10. However, if you are going to buy just ONE program, your bucks are better spent on Webroot. 10 out of 10. It amazes me each and every day.
Posted by: eaglefl ... you say WebRoot, are you referring [to] their SpySweeper program? ... what areas does it cover that our "basic" set of utilities do not?
Posted by: wccawa Yes... Spysweeper. It blows every other protective program out of the water ... [if] I DELIBERATELY set out to infect my system, it won't let me. The other programs I run just sit there and watch, with very few exceptions. ... [to] define "utility." In my eyes, Ace and Tuneup are "utilties." Webroot, Ewido, MS Anti-spyware, SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, etc. are not utilities, but malware protection programs. Let's define malware as "software designed specifically to damage or disrupt a system."
Posted by: wccawa I brought this up once before, but I just finished a new experiment: Ran [full scans] Webroot, Ewido, Spybot, MS AntiSpyware, Adaware, Pest Patrol on my machine. Then I did a virus scan with my Zone Alarm. Then ran PCPitstop. All of this occurred with SpywareGuard and SpywareBlaster in the background. They all found Nada. Zilch. NOTHING THERE... Then I went to the Symantec and Panda websites and ran their "free" online scan. Surprise, surprise... I was in MORTAL DANGER because of the horrible things they found wrong with my machine. But glory be, I could be "saved" if I forked over the $29.95 (or whatever) and bought THEIR programs. Please. Talk about snake oil. Incidentally, my neighbor bought Panda a while back and swore by it. I went over yesterday, ran Spybot and Webroot, and the roaches came swarming out from all over. I believe the last count was 152 separate bad guys hiding in his machine, all right under Panda's nose, which tells me everything I need to know about Panda. Don't even get me STARTED on Symantec. All IMHEO.
Posted by: wccawa Add TrendMicro to my crap list. Their online scan told me I had at least nine "bad" things on my machine, but they had no clue what they were: "we have no further info... Sheesh.
Posted by: wccawa It's like having sex with a lady with green legs...
Posted by: Onthego Spysweeper installed and works great. ... found 58 bad guys that Ad-aware and Nort.. missed.
